Travers 1961 yılında Disney’in çok sevdiği kahramanını beyazperdeye taşıma arzusunu tartışmak için Londra’dan Hollywood’a gider. Disney menajerin film için düşündüklerinden şüphelenen ve kendi geçmişiyle mücadele eden ciddi ve uzlaşmaz altmış yaşlarında bir kadınla karşılaşır. California’da kaldığı süre boyunca Travers 1906 yılında Avustralya’da geçen çocukluğunu anlatır. Öyle bir zamandır ki sadece yazımını şekillendirmemiş aynı zamanda 1934’te yazdığı kitaba da ilham vermiştir. Çok sevdiği babası Travers Goff kızına sevgi ve aydınlanma sunmuştur. Disney’e filmin telif haklarını vermeye çok da istekli olmayan Travers ünlü Hollywood masalcısının filmi yapmak için kendi sebepleri olduğunu fark eder.
